Short Golf Utrecht opened in 2015 at Sportpark Galecop in Nieuwegein, right inside the province of Utrecht. From the club’s own description, it is a public 18-hole par-3 course, laid out over 1,804 metres — eighteen holes you can play without a handicap or a GVB card. That matters more than it sounds: it means anyone can book a tee time and walk straight onto real grass, not a mat or a screen.
The layout has a friendly rhythm to it. The front nine holes are played without water hazards, and the rest of the course brings water into the picture, so the round stays interesting from the first tee to the last green. Golfers rate it warmly, too: on LeadingCourses it holds 6.5 out of 10 from 48 ratings, and on Hole19 it scores 4.1 out of 5 from 16 ratings.
There is plenty here to warm up on. The club has a covered driving range, a putting green, a dedicated short-game area, practice bunkers, and an NGF-affiliated academy on site, plus a restaurant with a bar and terrace for after your round. Club rental and buggy rental are available, so you can arrive with empty hands and still play.
Suits: beginners, families, and juniors will feel right at home here, and experienced players get a focused workout for their iron play and putting.
Access is simple. Short Golf Utrecht is open to everyone — no handicap, no GVB card, visitors always welcome. You book online through the club, or call 030-2083005. Nine holes start at €12.50, and the course is open year-round, with the covered range ready whenever the weather turns.
★ Suits: beginners, families, and juniors; also a focused iron-and-putting workout for experienced players.

Marina's note for learners
I often point beginners here before their first round at Chi Chi Golf — the par-3 layout keeps the focus on iron play and putting, where scores improve fastest. The covered range and practice bunkers on site mean a proper warm-up is always on hand.

A par-3 round asks one clear question on almost every hole: can you land the ball where you meant to, and then hole the putt? That is iron play and short game, the fastest place to lower a score — and honestly, my favourite part of teaching. Just four minutes from Utrecht, it is a natural next step after a lesson, where the swing we build meets a real card.

It is designed with them in mind. The 18-hole par-3 layout is compact and forgiving — no driver needed — and the front nine has no water hazards, so new players can relax and enjoy themselves. An NGF-affiliated academy, a covered driving range, a putting green, practice bunkers, and club rental are all on site.

Marina Romanik teaches at Chi Chi Golf in Utrecht and Golfschool Hoenderdaal in Driebergen — not at Short Golf Utrecht itself. A lesson with her is a great way to prepare, since she specialises in beginners and short-game improvement, which maps perfectly onto a par-3 round. Short Golf Utrecht also has its own NGF-affiliated academy if you prefer on-site instruction before your first tee time.
