Golfclub St. Nicolaasga sits in Legemeer, out in the open countryside of Friesland. From the club’s own description it is an 18-hole parkland course, opened in 1990 and laid out by the designers Alan Rijks and Paul Rolin across the wide Frisian land. The name honours the nearby village of Sint Nicolaasga — a small piece of local history that gives the club its character.
Golfers seem to leave happy. On Hole19 the course holds 4.2 out of 5 from 92 ratings, a steady, warm score that says people come back.
Playing here is easy to arrange. It is a pay-and-play course with online booking, so you reserve a tee time and arrive as a visitor. An 18-hole round costs €70.
Who does it suit? New golfers and returning players first. The open parkland gives you room, the mood is friendly, and there is space to enjoy the game without pressure. Families and visitors touring the north will feel welcome too.
There is proper practice ground before you tee off: a covered driving range, a putting green, a short-game area and practice bunkers, plus a golf academy on site. Afterwards the restaurant is there for a meal or a drink. For a golfer who wants to warm up, work on a weak spot, then play a full round in one visit, that is a nice, complete day out.
★ Suits: beginners, returning golfers, and visitors exploring the Frisian countryside

Marina's note for learners
A covered driving range, short-game area, and on-site academy mean you can warm up properly and work on one specific thing before you play — that is the kind of day I always recommend to golfers who want to test their practice straight away on a real course.

Open parkland like this rewards a swing you can repeat, hole after hole, with the wind moving across the flat Frisian land. That steady tempo — the same rhythm on the first tee and the last — is exactly the part of the game I most love to teach, so a round here feels calm instead of a fight.
Yes — a valid GVB card or handicap certificate is required to play the course. No membership is needed: Golfclub St. Nicolaasga is open to visitors, but you must show a handicap when you book your tee time.
An 18-hole round costs €70. Online tee-time booking is available, so you can reserve your slot from home before you make the trip to Friesland.
The club has an on-site golf academy where beginners can take lessons and work towards their handicap — the required first step before playing the 18-hole course. Once you have your GVB card, the open parkland layout is rated easy and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.
Yes — the club has a restaurant where you can sit down for a meal or a drink after your round. There is also a covered driving range, putting green, and short-game area if you want to warm up properly before you tee off.
Legemeer is in the heart of Friesland — roughly 1 hour 45 minutes by car from Utrecht. It makes for a great day trip through the wide open Dutch countryside.
Marina teaches at Chi Chi Golf in Utrecht and Golfschool Hoenderdaal in Driebergen, not at this course. A lesson or two before your trip north is a great way to arrive with a reliable, repeating swing — book directly via her website.
