Parkland along the Oude Maas

Golfclub Oude Maas sits in Rhoon, just south of Rotterdam, and it has carried NGF A-status since 1985. From the club’s own description it is a parkland course: eighteen holes threaded through mature trees, wide fairways and generous water, playing to a par of 71 over 5,748 metres. Water is the character here — it shapes many holes and asks you to think, not just swing hard.

Golfers rate it warmly. On LeadingCourses the course holds 7.7 out of 10 from 399 ratings, together with a Golfers’ Choice 2026 award. On Hole19, 155 golfers give it 4.3 out of 5. Those are steady, happy numbers from people who play it often.

Suits: this is a friendly all-rounder. Good players enjoy the water and the length, and because the club is beginner-friendly with a full golf academy on site, new golfers have a real home here too. There is a ladies programme for women who like to learn together, plus group and corporate days.

Playing as a guest

Oude Maas is a members-and-introduction club, so guests are welcome when a member brings them along. You need a valid handicap card (GVB) for the eighteen holes, and being NGF-affiliated, the club accepts your Dutch NGF handicap. Tee times can be booked online at golfcluboudemaas.nl. The visitor green fee is €59.50 for eighteen holes and €37.50 for nine.

For practice there is a covered driving range, a pro shop and a restaurant for after the round. If you are still working towards your GVB, the academy on site is a good place to begin.

Marina's note for learners

Water in play on a parkland layout means controlled iron play and course management matter more than distance — exactly what I work on with students at every level. If you are still building towards your GVB, the academy on site is a great place to start.

Where the round is won

With water in play across a parkland layout, Oude Maas rewards a golfer who plans the hole before drawing a club — a smooth, repeatable swing and a clear head beat brute distance here. Controlled iron play and honest course management are exactly the parts of the game I most enjoy teaching before a day like this.
