Nine holes on Landgoede Brakel
Golfclub Kromme Rijn — many golfers still know it as Golfclub Rijnauwen — is a 9-hole parkland course laid out on the Landgoed De Brakel estate in Bunnik, just 7 minutes by car from Utrecht. Parkland means a course shaped by trees and open lawns rather than dunes or heather, and here it gives you a calm, green round with a real estate feel around you. The club is affiliated with the Dutch golf federation (NGF), and its nine plays long for a nine, so it holds your attention hole after hole.

Playing here as a visitor
Kromme Rijn is a members club, but visitors are welcome — you just plan ahead. A valid NGF handicap card (GVB) is required, and tee times can be booked online, so it is best to reserve through krommerijn.nl or call the club before you drive over. The green fee is around €44 for the nine holes and €82.50 for eighteen. For practice there is a driving range and a putting green on site, plus the academy, so you can warm up properly and work on your game the same day you play.

A nine that rewards control
A longer parkland nine like this asks you to shape the ball between the trees and keep it in play, not just hit it far. Before a round here I would spend time on a repeatable, controlled swing and a reliable short game — that steadiness is what turns a good day at Kromme Rijn into a great one, and it is my favourite part of teaching.
