Parkland on the De Poll estate

Noord-Nederlandse Golf & Country Club sits on the historic De Poll estate near Glimmen, and the old manor house is the clubhouse itself — a rare and lovely setting. From the club’s own description, the course winds through a protected natural landscape where flowering rhododendrons add real colour in spring. The club dates to 1954; Frank Pennink extended the layout to 18 holes in 1987, and Donald Steel gave it a full redesign in 1998. Today it plays as a par-72 parkland course of 4,892 metres.

Golfers rate it warmly. On LeadingCourses it holds 8.4 out of 10 from 248 ratings, and on Hole19 it scores 4.6 out of 5 from 57 golfers — steady, happy numbers that match the club’s reputation for a genuine, inclusive welcome.

What a visitor needs

Visitors are welcome here, with two things in place first: a valid handicap (GVB) and an introduction from a member. The club takes online bookings, so it is worth arranging your round in advance with the secretariat. Green fees sit in the mid-range — around €90 for 18 holes and €40 for 9.

For practice, there is plenty: a covered driving range, a putting green, a short-game area, practice bunkers, and a golf academy on site. That mix suits players who want to warm up properly and beginners and juniors finding their feet, both of whom the club makes feel at home, alongside group and corporate days.

Marina's note for learners

Parkland courses like this reward a precise, repeatable swing more than raw power — and that is exactly what I focus on building in my lessons. Getting your short game and bunker play sharp before a round here will make every hole feel much more manageable.

Precision over power

At under 4,900 metres this parkland course rewards accuracy and a calm, repeatable swing more than raw distance — Steel’s 1998 shaping asks you to place the ball, not just hit it hard. That control off the tee and into the green is exactly the kind of golf I most enjoy helping players build before a round like this.
