Golfclub de Koepel sits in the green Twente countryside near Wierden, in Overijssel. From the club’s own information, it is a heathland course of 18 holes, par 70, measuring 5,099 metres — a friendly length that rewards a steady, well-placed shot over raw power. Golfers on Hole19 rate it 4.5 out of 5 from 90 ratings, so people clearly leave here happy.
The best part for many visitors: you do not need a handicap. De Koepel is a pay-and-play club, so you can book a tee time online, walk on, and play. Visitors are warmly welcome, and the club is NGF-affiliated. A round of 18 holes costs €68, and 9 holes €52.50, mid-range green fees for a full day out on a proper course.
Suits: this is a lovely place to begin. The club is openly friendly to beginners and juniors, has its own golf academy, and the par-70 layout stays enjoyable without ever feeling intimidating. More experienced golfers will like the calm heathland setting too, but it is beginners and young players the club really opens its arms to.
Before your round you have a driving range, a putting green, and a short-game area to warm up. There is a golf academy on site, so lessons and coaching are part of the club’s daily life. Buggies and trolleys are there to rent, and a restaurant is waiting for you after the last putt drops. For a family day or a group outing, it is an easy, relaxed choice.
★ Suits: beginners and juniors playing their first rounds on a full course, families, and intermediate golfers who enjoy heathland placement golf.

Marina's note for learners
I always tell beginners that a welcoming pay-and-play like de Koepel is a great first step onto a proper 18-hole course — no handicap needed, just book online and go. The heathland layout rewards exactly the placement and approach skills I focus on in lessons.

At 5,099 metres and par 70, de Koepel asks for placement more than brute distance, and the heath punishes a wild ball harder than a short one. That makes it a wonderful course to enjoy once your contact is clean and your aim is honest. The approach play into these greens is exactly the part of the game I most love teaching.

Marina Romanik (PGA-certified) teaches at Chi Chi Golf in Utrecht and Golfschool Hoenderdaal in Driebergen — not at de Koepel itself. A lesson there is a great way to sharpen your placement game before making the trip to Wierden. De Koepel also has its own on-site academy if you would like coaching on the day.
