Nine holes, water and trees

Golfbaan Sloten sits inside Sportpark Sloten on the western edge of Amsterdam. From the club’s own description, the nine holes wind through mature trees and water channels, and hares, pheasants, ducks and parakeets share the grounds with the golfers — a green, lively pocket of parkland in the city. The course plays to a par of 29.

The club points to two holes in particular. The 5th runs along a dike with water on the left and the right of the fairway, so your line off the tee really matters. The 7th is a par-4 and the longest on the card at 208 metres. Golfers on LeadingCourses give the course 6.8 out of 10 from 15 ratings, and on Hole19 it scores 4.7 out of 5 from 3 ratings (checked 26 September 2026).

Suits: learners and improving golfers most of all. Nine walkable holes and an NGF-affiliated setting make it a comfortable place to build a round, and the club runs a ladies programme too.

Playing here as a visitor

Visitors are welcome, and you can book your tee time online. You will want a handicap or GVB — the Dutch golf proficiency card — before you play the course, which the club confirms. If you are still working towards yours, that is exactly what the on-site golf academy is for.

A 9-hole green fee starts at €17, which makes a round here very reachable. The course is open year-round, so you can play or practise through the quieter winter months as well.

For practice there is plenty: a covered driving range for any weather, a putting green, a short-game area and practice bunkers. There is also a restaurant with a bar and terrace for after your round, plus buggy and club rental if you need them.

Marina's note for learners

Before stepping onto the course, make sure you have your GVB — the club's own academy is exactly the right place to earn it. Nine holes through trees and water put a premium on accuracy over power, and that controlled, committed swing is the part of golf I most enjoy coaching.

Straight beats long here

At par 29 over nine holes, Sloten rewards control over power — the dike at the 5th, with water left and right, asks for a committed, straight shot far more than a big one. That balance of accuracy and a steady short game is the part of golf I most enjoy teaching, and it is what turns a tidy nine holes here into a score you are proud of.
