Golfbaan de Golfhorst sits on heathland near the village of America in Limburg, and it has been played since 1997. The club describes a full 35 metres of height difference across the site, with panoramic views over the surrounding meadows and fields. That is real elevation, and it is rare on a Dutch course. The main course runs 18 holes, and there is a second, shorter loop as well: the 9-hole Americabaan, par 27, for a quicker or gentler round.
Golfers rate it warmly. On LeadingCourses it holds 8.0 out of 10 from 560 ratings, and its Golfers’ Choice 2026 listing placed it #10 in Limburg and #98 in the Netherlands. That is a strong, consistent score from a lot of golfers.
The 18 holes make a challenging round, so they reward players who already have their swing and can handle a shot from an uneven lie. The 9-hole Americabaan is the friendlier side of the same club. It is a real course where a newer golfer can play at a relaxed pace and still feel like proper golf. Between the two loops, the club suits a wide range of players.
Visitors are welcome here. You need a valid handicap or GVB to play the main course, and you can book your tee time online. A round costs €57.50 for 18 holes and €37.50 for 9, which is mid-range for what you get.
The practice side is genuinely good. There is a covered driving range you can use in any weather, a putting green, and a dedicated short-game area, which are the three things that really lower your scores. A golf academy is on site, and afterwards the clubhouse restaurant, bar and terrace are a warm place to sit down.
★ Suits: experienced players ready for a challenging, elevated heathland layout, and newcomers who want to begin on the 9-hole Americabaan par-27 loop.

Marina's note for learners
I would send anyone new to the game to the Americabaan first — it is a real round in a welcoming, low-pressure setting. When you are ready for the main 18, those 35 metres of elevation mean plenty of uneven lies: practise your balance before you go, and you will enjoy every hole.

Those 35 metres of height mean uneven lies and shots played from a slope. This is the kind of golf where a repeatable, balanced swing beats raw power every time. That is exactly the part of the game I most love to teach: how to stay steady on a hill and trust one simple motion. Get that right, and a heathland round like this becomes a real pleasure.
Yes — a valid handicap certificate (GVB or equivalent) is required to play the main 18-hole course. No membership is needed; visitors are welcome, so just bring your player card and book online before you arrive.

The 9-hole Americabaan (par 27) is a great starting point — a real course at a relaxed pace, perfect for players who are just getting comfortable with the game. The covered driving range, putting green, and short-game area are all there to practise on before or after your round.
The club has a covered driving range (usable whatever the weather), a putting green, and a dedicated short-game area. A golf academy with professional instruction is also on site.
Marina teaches at Chi Chi Golf in Utrecht and Golfschool Hoenderdaal in Driebergen — not at Golfhorst itself. A lesson with her is a great way to work on your swing and balance before tackling those 35 metres of elevation on the main course. You can book directly via her website.
