Tucked into a green pocket between the A4 and the De Vliet canal, Golf Club Leeuwenbergh in Den Haag is one of those places you don’t expect to find where it sits. Gerard Jol designed the 18-hole parkland layout, which opened in 1988. When the water features were dug out, the soil that came free was used to shape the fairways, so the ground gently rises and falls — a real course, not a flat one. It plays to a par of 71 over 5,534 metres, and it comes with a small twist: the front nine is 484 metres longer than the back nine, so you meet two different courses in one round. The club holds NGF A-status and is GEO-certified for its care of the environment.
Golfers rate it warmly. On LeadingCourses it scores 7.8 out of 10 from 255 ratings, and on Hole19 it holds 4.1 out of 5 from 75 ratings — steady, happy numbers from people who keep coming back. In 2026 the club was even nominated for Sportaccommodatie van het jaar (Sports Venue of the Year), which tells you something about how it is run and kept.
Suits: beginners and improving golfers first. The parkland style asks for accuracy more than raw power, so it rewards a tidy swing over a big one — kind ground to learn on. Juniors are welcome too, with a junior programme for young players.
Leeuwenbergh is pay-and-play, so you do not need to be a member to book a round — visitors are genuinely welcome. You do need a valid handicap card (NGF/GVB), so bring your proof. Tee times are booked online, year-round, and a green fee for 18 holes is €49.
For practice, there is plenty here: a covered, floodlit driving range you can use in any weather or light, a putting green, a short-game area and practice bunkers, plus an on-site golf academy. A pro shop, restaurant, bar and terrace round it off — and the terrace looks straight out over holes 12, 13 and 18, so you can watch a little golf while you rest.
★ Suits: beginners building confidence, improving golfers who value accuracy, and juniors — no membership needed, handicap card required.

Marina's note for learners
The parkland layout rewards shot placement over raw power — exactly what I focus on in lessons: a repeatable swing and honest yardages. Build that foundation first, and a course like Leeuwenbergh will feel inviting from the opening tee.

Jol’s parkland fairways ask you to place the ball, not just hit it far — and with a front nine that stretches well past the back, control of your distances matters even more here. That is the part I most love to teach: a repeatable swing and honest yardages, so the course feels friendly instead of long.

Very much so. The parkland layout rewards accuracy over power, which makes it kind ground to learn on. There is a covered floodlit driving range, putting green, short-game area, practice bunkers, and an on-site academy. A junior programme runs for young golfers too.

Marina teaches at Chi Chi Golf in Utrecht and at Golfschool Hoenderdaal in Driebergen — not at Leeuwenbergh itself. A few lessons with her are a great way to build a repeatable swing before you head out to a course like this. Book online, send a WhatsApp, or give her a call.
